Bedform Parameterization with Fingerprint Analysis Techniques
This Matlab toolbox contains code designed to parameterize the morphology of bedforms with fingerprint analysis techniques. These automated analysis tools identify rippled areas in seafloor as well as earth surface imagery, and return the distribution of ripple orientation and wavelength as well as the location and spatial density of ripple defects (termination and bifurcation). This analytical approach was introduced in Skarke and Trembanis (2011), and has undergone subsequent development as presented in Crawford and Skarke (2014) and DuVal et al. (2016). The code is based in part on a set of functions created by Peter Kovesi and Raymond Thai. The concept of applying fingerprint analysis approaches to bedform imagery was initially motivated by the work of Janice Felzenberg (2009). This code requires access to the Matlab image processing toolbox.

Automated detection and masking of rippled vs. non-rippled portions of the domain.

Block-wise determination of bedform orientation and frequency across the rippled portion of the domain.
